Team Philippines wrapped up its campaign at the World Games in Chengdu, China, on Sunday with a total haul of two silver and two bronze medals, missing out on podium finishes in its final events.
In powerlifting, Joyce Gail Reboton finished sixth in the women’s super heavyweight category after tallying 94.52 points from a 240kg squat, 147.5kg bench press, and 207.5kg deadlift at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre Gymnasium.
Canada’s Rhaea Danielle Stinn claimed the gold medal with 109.24 points, highlighted by a tournament-best 210kg bench press. Ukraine’s Daria Rusanenko took silver with 108.98 points, while the United States’ Mary Jane Krebs secured bronze with 104.93.
In the duathlon mixed relay at Xinglong Lake Hubin Arena, Kim Mangrobang and Franklin Yee placed 11th after clocking 1 hour, 23 minutes, and 54 seconds. Spain’s Maria Zubiri and Javier Morales captured gold in 1:19:21, narrowly beating Dutch duo Aline Kootstra and Valentin Van Wersch, who settled for silver.
The Philippines’ four medals in the 11-day quadrennial competition for non-Olympic sports came from Kaila Napolis (women’s -52kg ju-jitsu) and Chezka Centeno (women’s 10-ball billiards), both silver medalists, along with Carlos Baylon Jr. (men’s sanda 56kg wushu) and Aislinn Yap (women’s combat 80kg sambo), who won bronze.
The tournament closed Sunday night at Chengdu International Horticultural Expo Park, where Mayor Frank Mentrup of Karlsruhe, Germany, formally received hosting rights for the 2029 edition. Karlsruhe, which also hosted in 1989, has reportedly allotted €120 million for preparations.
The Philippines is also considering a possible bid to host the 2033 World Games.
