NEYMAR confirms shift to his old club, Santos.
SAO PAULO — Neymar has announced his return to Santos, his boyhood club, where he is set to sign a short-term contract as he looks to rejuvenate his career ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The 32-year-old Brazil forward made the official statement on Thursday, revealing his intention to rejoin the São Paulo-based club where his career began. Reports indicate the deal will last until June 30.
“Only Santos can provide the love I need to prepare for the challenges ahead,” Neymar wrote on his social media.
“I hope you will follow me through this new chapter of my life.” He expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and noted that fans, regardless of their team loyalties, would understand his decision.
In response, Santos welcomed him back with a warm message on their social media: “Your home awaits. Your people await.” Neymar’s departure from Santos nearly 12 years ago marked the start of his journey to international stardom, initially with Barcelona.
This move follows the termination of Neymar’s contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. His time in the Middle East was brief, with the striker making just seven appearances and scoring once after suffering an ACL injury while playing for Brazil.
Neymar’s stint at Paris Saint-Germain had also been fraught with criticism, particularly over concerns about his fitness.
Now, as he returns to Santos, Neymar aims to regain his form and focus on what could be a pivotal period in his career.
