MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed blogger and political commentator Rey Joseph “RJ” Nieto, also known online as “Thinking Pinoy,” as assistant secretary in the Office of the Cabinet Secretary.
Malacañang confirmed the appointment on Wednesday. Executive Secretary Ralph Recto signed Nieto’s appointment paper on September 1.
The Office of the Cabinet Secretary is headed by Secretary Benhur Abalos.
Nieto said in a social media post that he was grateful for the opportunity to serve in government, while acknowledging the responsibility that comes with the appointment.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve the Filipino people, but I am also aware that this is a difficult time for the country,” he said.
Nieto became known as a political commentator through his Thinking Pinoy blog, which gained a large following on social media beginning in 2015.
