A suspect ranked as the No. 1 most wanted person at the regional level was taken into custody in General Santos City after police located him in Barangay San Isidro, authorities said.

The arrest was made along Nuñez Street on Sept. 4, with personnel from General Santos City Police Office Station 4 serving a warrant issued by a local court.

The operation was supported by the CIDG-Sarangani Provincial Field Unit and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 12’s 1201st Company.

According to police, the accused is facing a case for syndicated estafa under the Revised Penal Code in relation to Presidential Decree No. 1689, the law imposing heavier penalties for certain forms of swindling committed by a syndicate.

The Regional Trial Court in General Santos City issued the warrant and did not recommend bail for the accused.

Authorities did not disclose the suspect’s identity, details of the alleged fraudulent scheme, the amount involved or when the alleged offense occurred.

Following the arrest, the accused was placed under the custody of Police Station 4 while authorities awaited a commitment order from the court handling the case.

The arrest brings the suspect before the judicial process but does not determine criminal liability. The accused remains presumed innocent unless the charge is proven beyond reasonable doubt.
