Police have unmasked the man behind the brazen roadside slay of a Meralco employee who was just days away from retirement.
The victim, who had worked decades for the power firm, was supposed to hang up his uniform at the end of August. Instead, he was gunned down in cold blood on Wednesday along Abad Santos Avenue in Barangay Salitran 3.
CCTV footage captured the chilling moment: the Meralco service vehicle briefly stopped beside a red car. Seconds later, the red car pulled away—leaving the employee fatally shot inside his vehicle.
Authorities quickly traced the getaway car’s plate number to its former owner, who told investigators he had already sold the vehicle. The trail led police straight to the suspect, a resident of Salitran 3. But when cops stormed his house, the gunman was gone.
“We have identified the shooter and murder charges are being prepared,” said Police Master Sergeant Wilfred Guevarra of Dasmariñas PNP.
The shocking twist? The victim wasn’t even supposed to be at work that day. Family said he only went to Meralco’s Ortigas office for a farewell gathering arranged by his colleagues.
“He was a kind man, not the type to get into fights,” a co-worker said, still stunned by the senseless killing.
Now, instead of celebrating a well-earned retirement, his family is left preparing for a funeral—while police intensify their hunt for the fugitive gunman.
