The Philippine National Police (PNP) stepped up security preparations ahead of this year’s observance of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season, both expected to begin on Feb. 18.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said additional police personnel were deployed to churches and mosques nationwide to ensure the safety of worshippers during religious activities.
He explained that the strategy focused on increasing police visibility and strengthening coordination with communities, especially in areas where large congregations were anticipated.
Units from the Salaam Police Center were also mobilized as part of the effort, reflecting the police force’s continued engagement with the Muslim community.
Beyond places of worship, security coverage was expanded to include major transport hubs, where increased foot traffic was expected during the religious period.
The PNP also established 24-hour police assistance desks near key churches and mosques to provide immediate support to devotees.
Nartatez urged the public to remain alert and cooperative, highlighting the importance of unity and vigilance as Muslims and Christians observe their sacred seasons simultaneously.
