Authorities intercepted about Php 6 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes in Baganga, Davao Oriental early Tuesday, leading to the arrest of two drivers, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

The suspects, aged 42 and 33, were flagged after police stopped two delivery vehicles carrying boxes of suspected illicit cigarette products.

Police said the operation stemmed from earlier surveillance conducted in the area.

Personnel from Police Regional Office 11, the Baganga Municipal Police Station, and supporting units carried out the coordinated operation.

The seized items were inventoried on-site in the presence of the suspects, in line with standard procedures, authorities said.

The suspects were taken into custody and brought to the Baganga police station for documentation and legal processing.

The PNP said the operation was part of its continuing campaign against smuggling and other illegal activities affecting public order and economic stability.
