The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday reiterated its loyalty to the Constitution despite new allegations against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. regarding supposed illegal drug use.
In a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said,
“Ang PNP po ay isang professional, non-partisan organization, at kami ay mananatiling loyal sa Konstitusyon at sa chain of command. Ang PNP ay hindi makikihalo sa usaping pampulitika.”
(The PNP is a professional, non-partisan organization, and we will remain loyal to the Constitution and the chain of command. The PNP will not interfere in political matters.)
The comments came after Senator Imee Marcos, the President’s sister, accused the First Family of illegal drug use during an Iglesia ni Cristo rally at Quirino Grandstand on Monday. Malacañang described her move as a political ploy to advance her allies.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said the President was disappointed:
“Dismayado po ang Pangulo. Dismayado na umabot sa ganitong kasinungalingan ang ginawa ng kaniyang kapatid.”
(The President is disappointed. He is disappointed that his sister has gone so far and resorted to such a lie.)
Meanwhile, Philippine Navy Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad assured that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will continue to uphold the Constitution amid the allegations.
