The Philippine National Police (PNP) is finalizing security measures for a prayer rally marking the 80th birthday of former president Rodrigo Duterte on March 28.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said the Police Regional Office in Region 11 (Davao) and the Davao City local government are coordinating preparations for the event at Rotary Plaza, New Corella, Davao del Norte.
“‘Yung ibinigay sa atin na information na prayer rally ang mangyayari diyan at we expect na marami din ang aattend diyan considering na taga Davao ‘yung ating dating pangulo,” Fajardo said in a virtual press briefing.
Davao City’s public safety office will provide the final estimate of attendees. The PNP is ensuring all necessary security measures are in place to maintain safety during the gathering.
Duterte is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands, facing crimes against humanity charges before the International Criminal Court (ICC) over deaths linked to his war on illegal drugs during his terms as Davao City mayor and president.
