Authorities arrested three individuals and confiscated heavy machinery worth an estimated Php 15.6 million in a crackdown against illegal mining operations in Cagayan de Oro City.
The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) led the operation on May 4, 2026 in Barangay Tumpagon, in coordination with regional police units, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 10.
The joint enforcement action formed part of OPLAN KALIKASAN, which targets violations of the Philippine Mining Act of 1995.
Police identified the arrested individuals only by their aliases “Fred,” “Boy,” and “Jake,” all adults who were allegedly engaged in excavation activities without the required permits.
Authorities said the suspects were caught operating mining equipment used for extraction activities in an area without authorization from the proper regulatory agencies.
Seized items included backhoes, generator sets, water pumps, welding machines, trommels, and other tools believed to have been used in the illegal operations.
PNP leadership praised the field units involved, saying the operation underscored ongoing efforts to protect natural resources and enforce environmental laws.
Officials reiterated that mineral resources remain state-owned and must only be extracted through legal and regulated processes, while also encouraging the public to report similar violations to authorities for immediate action.
