The Philippine National Police welcomed the conviction of seven people in a kidnapping-for-ransom case involving a businesswoman abducted in September 2025.

A Quezon City Regional Trial Court handed down the decision on June 30, less than a year after the kidnapping.

The PNP said the conviction capped a case built through pursuit operations, intelligence work, evidence gathering, and coordination with prosecutors.

After the abduction, the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group launched operations that led to the victim’s safe rescue nine days later.

Police said several suspects were arrested within the first 24 hours of the response.

A total of 11 individuals were eventually taken into custody during the investigation, which also disrupted the group believed to be behind the kidnapping.

The court found seven accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt of kidnapping for ransom and ordered them to pay civil, moral, and exemplary damages to the victim.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Nartatez said the ruling showed the importance of building strong cases after arrests, adding that the police would continue anti-kidnapping operations anchored on evidence, due process, and coordination with justice sector partners.
