Police seized more than Php 6 million worth of imported e-bike products during a search warrant operation in Mexico, Pampanga.
The Philippine National Police said the operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on June 23 for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
Authorities confiscated 365 imported e-bike batteries, 90 battery chargers, and 20 electric bicycles with batteries.
The seized items had an estimated total value of Php 6.02 million.
Initial findings showed that the products allegedly did not have the required Import Commodity Clearance stickers and Philippine Standard marks, which certify compliance with local safety and quality standards.
Police also found that the warehouse was allegedly operating without the required local business permit.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Nartatez said the operation was meant to ensure that products sold in the market comply with safety standards, while stressing that law enforcement does not seek to obstruct legitimate businesses.
The PNP said it would continue working with concerned government agencies to address violations that could endanger consumer welfare, while ensuring that operations are conducted with due process and respect for the rule of law.
