Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. pledged to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and public service as the police force marked the 35th anniversary of its reorganization on Thursday.
Nartatez said the administration’s direction emphasized a policing approach anchored on community engagement and institutional integrity.
He committed to ensuring that Filipinos would receive prompt, respectful, and competent police service, noting that operational readiness and internal accountability would remain key priorities.
The anniversary marked 35 years since the PNP was reorganized on January 29, 1991, following the enactment of Republic Act No. 6975, also known as the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act.
Ahead of the celebration, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged police officers to increase their presence and work toward rebuilding public confidence in a prerecorded message released Wednesday night.
Marcos had been invited to attend the event but was unable to do so after being diagnosed with diverticulitis.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto represented the President during the anniversary rites.
