Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil on Wednesday had nothing but praises for the candidates being considered to be his successor as the end of his term is approaching.
“Lahat po sila magagaling,” he commended them when he got the chance during a chance interview at Camp Crame.
The candidates according to the PNP Public Information Office and the Malacañang are:
- PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
- PNP chief for Operations Lt. Gen. Robert Rodriguez
- PNP chief of the Directorial Staff Lt. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo
- National Capital Region Police Office Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin
- Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III
Marbil did not give a personal recommendation and said that all of the contenders are qualified in their own ways.
“They have their own strengths and weaknesses. Lahat po sila capable to lead the Philippine National Police,” he said.
“Ang gagaling po ng mga ’yan. I can assure these people are very good.”
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier granted a four-month extension to Marbil’s term beyond his mandatory retirement date of February 7, 2025, to help maintain stability during the 2025 midterm elections.
Marbil, who is 56 years old, was appointed as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on April 1, 2024.
He expressed that he is looking forward to retirement and spending more time with his family.
“I will be spending most of my time with my family kasi we already spent so much time with our work,” he said.
Marbil expressed hope for the continuity of the police’s programs and reforms.
