Phuket, Thailand is about to become the heartbeat of Southeast Asia’s clean energy future. From August 27 to 29, 2025, the stunning SAii Laguna Phuket will host the 3rd ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC) — a high-powered gathering of global pioneers, industry leaders, and innovators set on redefining how the region stores, powers, and protects its energy.
Organized by the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (TESTA) alongside five other leading battery and EV organizations in the region, ABTC 2025 is more than a conference — it’s ASEAN’s united push toward greener, safer, and more innovative battery technologies. This year’s edition will also strengthen cross-border collaboration, ensuring the region moves forward as one in the global battery race.
A landmark launch for battery safety
One of this year’s defining moments will be the official launch of the ASEAN Battery Safety Network (ABSN), backed by the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) and member states. This groundbreaking platform will drive knowledge sharing, improve battery safety standards across the region, and boost ASEAN’s influence in the global battery value chain.
Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, TESTA co-founder and president, called the event “a defining moment for ASEAN as we accelerate regional collaboration to drive innovation, safety, and sustainability in next-generation battery technologies.” She also emphasized the honor of hosting renowned energy visionaries, including Nobel Chemistry Laureate Professor Stanley Whittingham, Professor Yet-Ming Chiang, and Professor Shirley Meng — a clear signal of ABTC’s growing global importance.
Dr. Sing Yang Chiam of the Singapore Battery Consortium described the ABSN launch as “a critical first step” toward tackling battery safety challenges in every ASEAN member state. “We are now mapping each nation’s priorities and challenges to create a unified roadmap for the years ahead,” he added.
Looking ahead to Malaysia in 2026
NanoMalaysia Berhad CEO Dr. Rezal Khairi Bin Ahmad praised ABTC’s rapid rise as a catalyst for battery and e-mobility innovation, promising that ABTC 2026 in Penang will “bring together industry leaders across the full battery and EV supply chain” and push the region’s ambitions even further.
Packed agenda, global expertise
Over three days, attendees will hear from top minds in battery policy, circular economy strategies, grid-scale storage, battery swapping, financing, and more — with perspectives from both government and private sector leaders. Speakers include experts from Indonesia’s National Battery Research Institute, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, and the Singapore Battery Consortium.
The conference’s impressive list of partners includes Siemens as AI & Digitalization Partner, UL Standards & Engagement as Safety and Standards Partner, and leading industry names such as EGAT, Amphenol, Huawei, and Green Tenaga.
Why it matters
With electric mobility, renewable energy integration, and sustainable storage at the forefront of global change, ABTC 2025 will shape the future of how ASEAN powers its cities, industries, and communities. Whether you’re a policymaker, an innovator, or an investor, this is where the region’s battery future begins.
