The Philippines ended 2025 with an increase in Taiwanese visitor arrivals, signaling a recovery after a challenging midyear for tourism.

Taiwanese arrivals reached 213,928 last year, up from 201,203 in 2024. The rise reflected improved travel access, restored connectivity, and sustained promotion of Philippine destinations in Northeast Asia, according to Chriselle May S. Yambao, Tourism Attaché of the Philippine Department of Tourism in Taiwan.

Visa-free entry for Taiwanese travelers and expanded air connections were major factors behind the rebound. More flights, wider cruise options, and simpler entry procedures made visiting the Philippines easier and more attractive.

The introduction of new cruise itineraries, including Star Cruises’ Star Navigator via Kaohsiung, also provided more travel options and helped support the recovery in the latter part of the year.

Taiwan’s outbound travel market grew by 12.43 percent in 2025, with Japan, South Korea, Greater China, Vietnam, and Thailand remaining top destinations. Within this context, the Philippines ranked ninth among Taiwan’s preferred destinations, highlighting both opportunities and competition.

Even as arrivals dipped midyear due to regional competition, the Philippines maintained steady promotion in Taiwan through trade engagements and market campaigns. These efforts reinforced the country’s image as a safe, accessible, and value-driven destination, contributing to renewed bookings toward year-end.

Tourism experiences remained a key factor in drawing Taiwanese visitors. Beach and island destinations, diving and marine activities, cruise tourism, MICE travel, and English language programs offered a diverse range of options that appealed to different travel preferences.

Entering 2026, the Philippines holds cautious optimism. With visa-free access, improved connectivity, and a broad portfolio of tourism offerings, the country aims to sustain growth and provide travelers with experiences rooted in culture, nature, and Filipino hospitality.
