Officials from both institutions convened on Wednesday to review ongoing initiatives and explore ways to enhance coordination in support of the Philippines’ evolving economic priorities. The discussions underscored the importance of sustained institutional engagement as the government continues to modernize its fiscal management framework.
According to the BTr, the meeting focused on advancing public financial management reforms and identifying new opportunities to expand technical cooperation, particularly in areas related to treasury management and fiscal oversight.
National Treasurer Sharon Almanza and Deputy Treasurer Kenneth Ian Francisco represented the BTr, while the IMF delegation was led by Executive Director for Japan Jun Mizuguchi. Also present were Asia Pacific Department Deputy Division Chief Dennis Botman and Public Financial Management II Deputy Division Chief Maximilien Queyranne.
During the discussions, Almanza expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support to the Philippines through the IMF, particularly in providing technical assistance that helps strengthen the country’s fiscal institutions and reform initiatives.\
The Treasury said the meeting reflects the shared commitment of the Philippine government and the IMF to promote sound fiscal governance, enhance transparency, and reinforce policies that support the country’s long-term economic stability and sustainable growth.
