Bangkok, Thailand — Team Philippines turned in a strong showing in the marathon events of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Sunday, collecting two silver medals and a bronze in a grueling morning run at the Happy and Healthy Bike Lane here.
Arlan Arbois Jr. led the Filipino charge in the men’s marathon, clocking 2:30:19 to secure the silver medal after a steady, disciplined race over the full 42.195 kilometers. He was followed closely by teammate Richard Salaño, who finished in 2:31:29 to claim the bronze, sealing a double-podium finish for the Philippines.
Indonesia’s Robi Syanturi proved untouchable in the men’s race, pulling away in the latter stages to capture the gold with a winning time of 2:27:33.
On the women’s side, Artjoy Torregosa delivered another silver-medal performance for the Philippines, crossing the line in 2:48:00 after maintaining a strong pace against a competitive field. Indonesia’s Odekta Elvina Naibaho dominated the event, taking the gold in 2:43:13.
Filipina runner Christine Hallasgo narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth at 2:57:22, just three seconds behind the bronze medal position. Vietnam’s Bui Thi Thu Ha earned the silver medal in the women’s race with a time of 2:54:40.
The results underscored the depth and resilience of Philippine long-distance running, as the national team closed the marathon events with three medals and valuable momentum heading into the remainder of the athletics competitions at the SEA Games.
