The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) reminded Filipinos to continue taking their regular medications despite the holiday festivities.

Dr. Iris Garcia, PHA Director III and Advocacy Committee Chair, said indulgent meals and parties can raise cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels if maintenance treatments are skipped.

She emphasized that medications for heart, cholesterol, and diabetes management are especially important during the holidays when dietary habits change.

Garcia also highlighted the need to maintain proper sleeping patterns to help the heart cope with holiday stress and activity.

The PHA cautioned that excessive food, alcohol, and lack of rest may lead to holiday heart syndrome, which can trigger spikes in blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues.

Health experts also noted that holiday indulgences can worsen weight, cholesterol, triglycerides, and digestive discomfort if precautions are not taken.

PHA stressed that enjoying the holidays should go hand in hand with responsible health management to protect the heart and overall well-being.
