The Philippines and the United States have moved to develop a large industrial zone in Luzon aimed at strengthening supply chains for critical industries.

US officials said the proposed site, covering about 1,619 hectares, would be designated as an economic security zone by the Philippine government.

The facility is planned within the Luzon Economic Corridor, which spans key growth areas including Metro Manila, Batangas, Clark in Pampanga, and Subic Bay.

Authorities said the project is intended to support industries linked to advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and critical minerals.

The initiative forms part of Pax Silica, a broader effort led by the United States and partner economies to secure global supply chains and align industrial development with security priorities.

Trade officials confirmed that the Philippines has joined the alliance, becoming one of its member economies alongside several countries in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Officials said the country’s workforce and resources, including deposits of nickel, copper and other key minerals, make it a strategic location for such investments.

While no construction timeline has been announced, authorities said the planned zone is expected to boost regional development and attract investment into high-value manufacturing sectors.
