MANILA — Finance Secretary Frederick Go met with US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Jeremy Wiggins on the sidelines of the 2026 International Monetary Fund-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, to discuss cooperation on energy reforms, infrastructure financing, and key development projects.
During the meeting, Go welcomed the USD 60-million grant from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) aimed at supporting energy sector reforms and facilitating investments in the Philippines.
He emphasized the importance of reducing electricity costs to ease the financial burden on Filipino consumers and improve the country’s investment environment.
Both officials also explored potential financing assistance to minimize power system losses and strengthen the efficiency of the country’s energy sector.
Discussions included a proposed guarantee mechanism involving the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which could expand the Philippines’ financing capacity for major infrastructure projects.
Among the priority projects identified was the North–South Commuter Railway, a key transport initiative under the Luzon Economic Corridor.
The proposed financing arrangement seeks to provide additional funding flexibility for the government as it advances infrastructure development and economic growth initiatives.
