For playing a crucial role in Petro Gazz’s strong start in the 2024-2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, Myla Pablo was unanimously chosen as the fifth Press Corps Player of the Week for the period December 10 to 14.
The 31-year-old outside hitter from Tarlac scored 19 points on 17 attacks and two blocks as Petro Gazz beat PLDT, 12-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-20, on December 10.
Pablo then delivered 15 points in the Angels’ 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 win over the Cignal HD Spikers on Saturday.
Her brilliant showing helped Petro Gazz take the top spot with a 5-1 win-loss record.
“I get my confidence from myself and also from (my) teammates and coaches. What role is given to me in the team, I need to work on because, of course, I will only be given a chance to play once, why don’t I do my best,” Pablo said.
She was inserted into the first six against Farm Fresh on November 23 after regular starter Jonah Sabete injured her left calf.
“Of course, those who support us are also there, especially the Petro Gazz fans and those who trust me. That’s really a big thing for me to boost my confidence,” added the two-time PVL Most Valuable Player.
Pablo beat Petro Gazz teammate Brooke Van Sickle, Akari outside hitter Grethcel Soltones, Creamline star Alyssa Valdez, Choco Mucho ace Sisi Rondina, and Chery Tiggo young gun Cess Robles for the weekly honor given by print and online journalists covering the league.
Pablo is determined to keep her momentum when the PVL resumes in January.
“This 2024, maybe I (have) already gained self-confidence. That’s what I’m looking for so I tell the setters to give me confidence. I will attack even though I’m adjusting,” Pablo said. (PNA)
