Petro Gazz edged past Capital1, 25-27, 25-13, 25-10, 25-10, in the PVL Reinforced Conference at Ynares Center Montalban on Saturday.
Lindsey Vander Weide and Brooke Van Sickle led the Angels with 22 and 21 points, respectively, pushing Petro Gazz to the knockout quarterfinals with a 4-3 record. They join Akari Chargers and Cignal Super Spikers, also at 4-3. Capital1 advanced as the No. 8 seed with a 3-4 slate.
“We just kept talking to each other — communication is a big part — and we focused on taking it one point at a time,” said MJ Phillips, who scored 19 points and earned Best Player of the Game honors.
Ranya Musa added six points, Jonah Sabete four, and Jules Tolentino, who delivered 27 excellent sets, scored three points in the 1-hour, 47-minute match.
Bella Belen led Capital1 with 18 points from 16 attacks and two aces, while import Sasha Bytsenko contributed 17 points from 16 attacks and one ace.
