As Southern Mindanao grapples with the aftermath of a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and its Authorized Agent Corporations (AACs) have activated relief operations to assist affected communities across the region.
Responding to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to accelerate aid delivery to disaster-stricken areas, PCSO and its lotto operator partners immediately coordinated with local authorities and community organizations to support families impacted by the devastating quake.
The earthquake, which struck off the coast of Sarangani on Monday morning, triggered widespread disruptions across several provinces. Damage to infrastructure, interruptions in power and communication services, and the suspension of classes and government operations were reported as emergency responders rushed to assess the situation.
PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles said the agency’s partner operators in Mindanao were among the first to mobilize on the ground, helping facilitate relief efforts in areas hardest hit by the disaster.
“The immediate response of our AAC partners demonstrates the power of collaboration in times of crisis. Their commitment to serving affected communities reflects the compassion and solidarity that define the PCSO family,” Robles said.
He noted that the agency’s extensive network allows assistance to be delivered more efficiently, particularly during emergencies when speed and coordination are critical.
“Our KawanggaWarriors continue to embody the spirit of malasakit by reaching out to those who need help most. Together with our partners, we are committed to ensuring that affected families receive the support they need as they recover from this tragedy,” he added.
The strong tremor was felt across large portions of Mindanao, with significant impacts reported in Sarangani, South Cotabato, General Santos City, and nearby areas. Authorities have also warned residents to remain vigilant as aftershocks are expected in the coming days.
PCSO said its AAC partners will continue working closely with local government units, disaster response agencies, and community stakeholders to identify urgent needs and facilitate the delivery of additional relief assistance.
As rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts continue, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to stand alongside affected communities and provide support throughout the recovery process.
“With the help of our partners and local communities, we will continue to bring hope and assistance where it is needed most,” Robles said.
