The Philippine Coast Guard station in Zamboanga has placed its personnel and assets on heightened alert as Super Typhoon Bavi moves closer to the Philippine area of responsibility.
Bavi will be given the local name Inday once it enters the country’s monitoring area.
Lt. Commander Vincent Marcos, commander of PCG Zamboanga, said the station had activated its Deployable Response Group for possible emergency deployment.
The activation placed search and rescue teams, maritime safety units and disaster response personnel on standby.
Marcos said rescue equipment and other critical assets were also being readied for possible coastal and maritime emergencies.
He said Coast Guard units had been ordered to continuously monitor weather conditions and sea state to ensure quick and coordinated response if needed.
PCG Zamboanga said it was coordinating with Pagasa, the Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, local governments and partner agencies for weather updates and emergency response.
Authorities urged the public to stay alert, follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary sea travel during bad weather, stressing that preparedness and cooperation are needed to protect lives and communities.
