The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Biliran suspended trips of small vessels on Friday as rough seas and strong winds brought by the southwest monsoon raised safety concerns.
The suspension took effect at 9:30 a.m. and covered vessels weighing 15 gross tons and below traveling along the Maripipi-Kawayan-Naval route and back.
Coast Guard Station Biliran said the measure was imposed as a precaution because of deteriorating sea conditions linked to the Habagat.
The suspension was implemented under existing Coast Guard rules that allow authorities to halt maritime travel during hazardous weather.
Vessel owners, boat operators and fishermen were advised to observe safety precautions and monitor official advisories while the restriction remains in place.
The Coast Guard said trips would resume only after weather and sea conditions improve and authorities determine that travel is safe.
The affected route links Maripipi with Kawayan and Naval and is used by commuters, traders and cargo operators in the province.
Pagasa said the southwest monsoon continues to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas over parts of the Visayas and Luzon.
