The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued three fishermen and recovered the body of a fourth after their fishing boat was found drifting in waters off Occidental Mindoro on Saturday.
The Coast Guard said the fishermen were located after it received a radio message shortly after noon from another fishing vessel reporting a disabled boat at sea.
Authorities identified the distressed vessel as FB MJ 2, which was spotted about 102 nautical miles from Cabra Island in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro.
Initial findings showed that the boat suffered engine failure, leaving it adrift for several days before it was discovered.
Three crew members were found alive and were safely transferred to the responding fishing vessel, while one fisherman was confirmed dead.
One of the survivors was reported to be in weak physical condition and required immediate medical attention, the Coast Guard said.
The rescued fishermen were later taken aboard the patrol vessel BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) and transported to Manila, following earlier search and rescue operations launched after the group failed to return to Lian, Batangas from a Feb. 9 fishing trip near Ambil and Lubang Islands.
