Filipino travelers continued to crowd seaports nationwide following the New Year holidays, with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reporting over 190,000 outbound and 187,000 inbound passengers on January 3.
In a social media update on Saturday, the PCG detailed its monitoring efforts, noting 192,981 outbound passengers and 187,757 inbound passengers across all ports nationwide on the said date.
The PCG deployed 2,989 frontline personnel across its 16 districts to manage the surge. Additionally, the agency inspected 1,745 vessels and 2,156 motorbancas to ensure passenger safety and compliance with maritime regulations.
The PCG was on heightened alert from December 20, 2024, to January 3, 2025, as part of its operations to oversee the increased flow of holiday passengers.
The agency reminded the public that they could reach out for inquiries, concerns, or assistance through its official Facebook page or the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service at 0927-560-7729.
January 1, designated as a regular holiday by Malacañang, marked the end of the holiday season, with many Filipinos returning from their hometowns after spending Christmas and New Year celebrations with loved ones.
The PCG’s proactive measures ensured smoother operations and safer travel for passengers during the busy holiday.
