BATANES, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) transported 7,000 food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to Basco, Batanes, as part of government efforts to provide relief assistance to affected communities in the province.
The relief supplies arrived aboard the PCG vessel BRP Corregidor (AE-891) on November 5, 2026, for distribution to residents in need of assistance.
According to the PCG, its personnel worked alongside other government agencies to facilitate the arrival and unloading of the food packs, ensuring that the supplies could be prepared for distribution to affected families.
The operation was conducted in coordination with the Philippine Navy, Philippine Marine Corps, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), DSWD and other government agencies operating in Basco.
Personnel from the participating agencies joined efforts to unload the relief supplies and support the logistical requirements of the humanitarian operation.
The delivery forms part of the government’s continuing disaster response efforts to ensure that essential food assistance reaches communities affected by emergencies and natural calamities.
Transporting relief supplies to island provinces such as Batanes requires coordination among government agencies, particularly when maritime transportation is needed to move large quantities of essential goods.
The PCG said the successful unloading operation demonstrated the importance of inter-agency cooperation in facilitating the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance.
The 7,000 food packs are intended for distribution to affected residents, providing additional food support to households facing difficulties following recent adverse conditions.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to supporting humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, particularly in coastal and island communities where maritime logistics play a crucial role.
The joint operation also highlighted the coordination among uniformed services and civilian agencies in delivering essential supplies to communities requiring government assistance.
