President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced the creation of a three-member independent commission to investigate alleged anomalies in flood control projects, granting it sweeping powers to summon agencies and recommend the filing of charges.
“They are completely separate from government. We will give them all the powers that are necessary for them to come to a conclusion, to come for some findings. Para alam natin kung anong nangyari,” Marcos said in his podcast aired on Sunday.
The commission will be composed of independent professionals — a lawyer, an investigator, and a forensic accountant. The President stressed that there will be “no sacred cows” in the probe.
“Nobody is more important than Filipinos. Nobody. Not one person is more important,” Marcos emphasized.
The commission’s findings may be endorsed to the Department of Justice or the Office of the Ombudsman. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the executive order establishing the commission is now awaiting the President’s signature.
