President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the kidnapping and murder of Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que, whose body was found along with his driver in a grassy area of Barangay Macabud, Rodriguez, Rizal.
In a Palace briefing, Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized the administration’s commitment to resolving the case, especially amid growing alarm from the Filipino-Chinese community over a string of recent abductions.
“Patuloy po ang pag-iimbestiga. Hindi po ito tutulugan ng gobyerno,” Castro assured. “Pinagbilin po ng Pangulo na dapat imbestigahang mabuti para ma-lessen o ma-eradicate ang mga ganitong klaseng krimen dito sa Pilipinas.”
The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that Que — also known as Anton Tan — and his driver were last seen on March 29 after leaving their steel business office in Valenzuela City. They were reported missing by Que’s family the next day.
According to PNP spokesperson Police Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, the victims bore signs of bruises, bodily injuries, and strangulation. A black Lexus LM350, last used by Que, was found abandoned on April 8 in Project 6, Quezon City.
“We will backtrack and find the missing link from the time he was last seen alive,” said Fajardo, noting the unusual route Que and his driver took that day.
Police are also investigating a possible connection between the crime and a group involved in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). Fajardo acknowledged that the POGO angle is among the leads being pursued, considering previous incidents linked to such groups.
As part of intensified efforts, the PNP has activated a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to focus on the case. Meanwhile, Police Gen. Elmer Ragay, former director of the Anti-Kidnapping Group, has been relieved from his post due to dissatisfaction with performance. He has been replaced by Police Col. David Poklay, formerly of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
Investigators are also verifying reports that two unidentified individuals wearing hoodies were seen fleeing the area where Que’s car was abandoned.
The Palace has assured the public, especially the Filipino-Chinese community, that justice will be pursued with urgency and that law enforcement will act decisively against those behind the crime.
