In view of the extensive flooding wrought by the recent heavy rains, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. (PBBM) admitted that the government’s current flood control and mitigation initiatives are not enough because there are still many more projects to be done in order to resolve the perennial problem of flooding.
This was the President’s pronouncement after he conducted the inspection of the high vacuum self-priming drainage trailer pump that was put up at the Alido Bridge in Barangay Zapote, Las Piñas City.
According to the chief executive, there were positive results from the continued dredging done by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) following his directive.
“Malakas ang ulan nung nakaraang ilang araw at mabuti naman at tama naman dahil sa binigay kong instruction sa DPWH, patuloy yung dredging na ginagawa. Mukhang nagkaroon naman ng epekto, hindi ganoon kalala ang pagbaha, medyo nabawasan,” he pointed out in the vernacular.
He added, “Mas mababaw na ngayon ang baha kumpara sa mga nakaraang pagkakataon.”
“Dati hanggang sa dibdib, ngayon e wala pa, hindi pa, hindi na, kulang pa sa tuhod ang baha,” he cited, although he reiterated to note that this is not enough since there are still many strategies to be completed to improve the flood control system in Metro Manila.
In ending, Mr. Marcos Jr. called on local government units (LGUs) and the public as well to be responsible in the disposal of garbage so flooding would not worsen.
“Patuloy ang mga hakbang ng pamahalaan para sa flood control, kabilang ang dredging na isinasagawa kasama ang mga lokal na pamahalaan. Patuloy ang ating gagawin ito dahil hindi pa tapos ang trabaho, marami pa tayong gagawin, ngunit effective ang ating nagawa na sinimulan itong taon na ito. Hindi natin titigilan hanggang matapos iyan. Ang dredging talagang walang tigil iyan, tuluy-tuloy iyan,” he concluded while appealing for unity and cooperation in this endeavor.
