The City of Pasig paid tribute to Filipino mountaineer Engr. Philipp Santiago II with a water salute on the morning of June 5, following his death during an expedition on Mt. Everest.

Santiago, 45, was a native of Pasig and an alumnus of Pasig Catholic College. He passed away at Camp 4 on Mt. Everest, a location situated at 26,000 feet along the edge of the “death zone,” where the lack of supplementary oxygen often proves fatal. His body was repatriated on June 2 following several days of recovery operations from Mt. Everest.

Recognized as more than just an adventurer, Santiago was an advocate for clean drinking water and the fight against childhood cancer. His journey to Everest symbolized not only a personal achievement but a mission to inspire and serve others.

His remains left the Cosmopolitan San Francisco Memorial Chapel at 8 a.m. and were brought to the Pasig Immaculate Conception Cathedral for a funeral mass at 10 a.m., before proceeding to his final resting place. Family members, friends, local officials, and various civic organizations gathered to pay their final respects to the Pasigueño whose life reflected both courage and compassion.
