MANILA, Philippines – A Pasay City police officer has been relieved from his post after a video allegedly showing him physically abusing his live-in partner circulated on social media, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.

According to the PNP, the video was uploaded to Facebook on October 20, 2026, prompting authorities to take immediate personnel action against the officer.

On October 21, the officer was removed from his assignment at Substation 1 in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex and reassigned to the District Personnel Holding and Accounting Section.

His issued 9mm Beretta pistol, magazine, and 14 rounds of ammunition were also surrendered to the unit’s supply personnel.

A criminal complaint for violation of Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, was filed before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office on October 21. The complaint remains pending evaluation.

Meanwhile, a separate pre-charge investigation recommended administrative complaints for Grave Misconduct and Conduct Unbecoming of a Police Officer, both considered grave offenses.

Investigators cited the complainant’s sworn statement, medico-legal records, and CCTV footage concerning the alleged physical abuse.

The officer was also directed to submit a written explanation as part of the investigation and in observance of due process.

PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stressed that police personnel must be held accountable for their actions, regardless of rank or position.

“No position or uniform exempts any police officer from accountability. Every allegation of abuse must be addressed seriously, with the appropriate disciplinary measures pursued in accordance with established rules and due process,” Nartatez said.

He added that wearing a police uniform carries the responsibility to uphold the law and maintain public trust, both on and off duty.

The PNP assured the public that it would continue enforcing disciplinary measures against personnel found responsible for misconduct while ensuring that investigations follow established legal procedures.
