Alex Eala is ready to wear the Philippine colors once again.
The country’s tennis sensation has officially committed to represent Team Philippines in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, giving Filipino sports fans another major reason to celebrate.
Team Philippines chef de mission Richard Lim confirmed that the world No. 28 will be part of the national delegation in the prestigious continental competition.
“We had a meeting, and she will be playing,” Lim said.
Although Eala’s participation is now confirmed, Lim did not reveal which events the 21-year-old Filipina star will enter. It remains unclear whether she will compete only in women’s singles or also see action in women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Regardless of the final lineup, Eala’s presence is expected to provide a massive boost to the Philippine tennis squad.
The rising Filipina has repeatedly shown her commitment to representing the country despite the demands of competing on the international professional tour.
Eala last suited up for the Philippines at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, where she delivered a golden performance by ruling the women’s singles competition.
She is also no stranger to the Asian Games podium.
During her debut appearance in Hangzhou, China, Eala captured two bronze medals—one in women’s singles and another in mixed doubles alongside Filipino doubles specialist Francis Casey Alcantara.
Those victories established Eala as one of the country’s most dependable medal contenders on the continental stage.
Earlier, the Filipina ace made it clear that returning to the Asian Games was among her priorities.
“The Asian Games is in my plans. It’s always an honor,” Eala said.
Her commitment comes as her professional career continues to reach new heights. Now ranked among the world’s top players, Eala is expected to enter the Asian Games with greater experience, confidence and firepower than during her previous appearance.
With Eala leading the charge, the Philippines will be hoping to improve on its past tennis campaign and possibly end its long wait for an Asian Games gold medal in the sport.
For Eala, however, the mission goes beyond rankings and individual achievements.
Once again, she will step onto the court carrying the Philippine flag—and millions of Filipino fans will be watching.
