Davao City First District Rep. Paolo Duterte filed libel and cyberlibel complaints against several GMA News executives, journalists, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag, and other individuals on Friday, October 23.
The complaints were filed before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Ecoland, Davao City, following allegations made by dismissed police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr. involving the Duterte family.
Among those named in the complaint-affidavit were GMA executives Felipe Gozon and Gilberto Duavit Jr., news personalities Mel Tiangco, Vicki Morales, and Emil Sumangil, as well as Darlene Cay, Marvin Parado, and Joel San Luis.
Matibag and Gracioso were also included among the respondents.
The filing stemmed from Gracioso’s claims that he had delivered suitcases containing cash to Vice President Sara Duterte and other members of her family.
The Duterte camp has denied the allegations, disputing the former police officer’s account.
The complaints bring the controversy before prosecutors, who will evaluate the allegations and determine whether there is sufficient basis to pursue criminal charges against the respondents.
The filing of the complaints does not establish criminal liability, while Gracioso’s allegations against the Duterte family remain disputed.
