The municipality of Agno in Pangasinan is preparing to open two caves to visitors later this year as part of its effort to expand local tourism.
Mayor John Celeste said Simmimbahan Cave in Barangay Tupa and Kimmalding Cave in Barangay Gayusan are expected to welcome tourists by November, after the rainy season.
The local government has signed an agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources covering the management of the sites and the training of local tour guides.
Officials are also installing signages around the caves, while existing paved roads have already made the attractions accessible to visitors.
Celeste said the new destinations would complement Agno’s existing tourist sites and help draw more travelers to the municipality.
The local government is also preparing a comprehensive development plan for Umbrella Rocks Beach, including the construction of a park and additional visitor facilities, subject to funding.
At the same time, municipal officials are coordinating with the DENR and the Department of Public Works and Highways over land ownership issues involving portions of the popular beach destination.
Agno is also working to improve transport links by seeking direct trips between Dagupan City and the town, which is also known for Umbrella Rocks Beach, Abagatanen Beach and several scenic coves.
