MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco) has been conducting transformer load management and line upgrading in preparation for the possible effects of the very strong El Niño in the last quarter of this year through the first quarter of next year.

In a phone interview on Friday, Cenpelco General Manager Rodrigo Corpuz said the phenomenon would affect the load demand of consumers.

“Actually, the main thing that we are concerned with is the increase in the load of each distribution transformer that we are using; we check the available capacity in case of the increase in the demand of our transformers,” he said.

Corpuz said they also stockpile transformer units as backup in case replacements are needed.

“So, our objective is to have an immediate stock of transformers. So if we have a problem, we will be able to solve it immediately, since we cannot transfer the load of one transformer to another,” he added.

Corpuz said they have also been upgrading electric wires in their jurisdiction so that extreme hot weather would not cause power interruptions.

“We are upgrading our wirings until now to ensure their safety amid the effects of El Niño,” he said.

Corpuz also urged consumers to check the electrical wirings in their own residences to prevent untoward incidents that might be caused by the extreme heat.

“Avoid overloading outlets and check your wirings for wear and tear to prevent fires due to faulty wiring,” he said.

Corpuz also appealed to consumers to help conserve electricity. (PNA)
