Palace vows to protect Filipinos amid unrest in Europe

MANILA – Malacañang assured Filipinos in Europe that the government is closely monitoring ongoing demonstrations and unrest in several countries and is ready to extend assistance to those affected.

During a Palace press briefing on Monday, October 19, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. prioritizes the safety and welfare of Filipinos during emergencies overseas.

“When there are incidents like this, the President first orders the concerned agencies to look into the situation and attend to the needs of our fellow Filipinos in affected areas,” Castro said.

She added that Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac is monitoring developments, particularly in Milan, Italy, to ensure that Filipinos receive assistance when necessary.

“Whatever the situation may be, the first thing the government protects is the lives and safety of our people,” Castro emphasized.

The Palace also expressed hope that the unrest in France, Italy, and other European countries would be resolved peacefully.

Castro said the government hopes the situation will not disrupt the participation of European leaders in the ASEAN Summit scheduled to take place in Manila in November.

Meanwhile, Castro acknowledged the impact of international developments and El Niño on the prices of basic commodities, urging the public to understand the factors contributing to rising costs.

She assured Filipinos that the administration continues to implement measures to address economic challenges while maintaining public safety and peace and order.

The Palace reiterated its commitment to protecting Filipinos both at home and abroad amid evolving international developments.
