Malacañang has ordered shortened work hours in Executive branch offices on Sept. 28 to allow government employees to spend time with their families in observance of the 34th National Family Week and Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 136 signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Sept. 16, work in government offices under the Executive branch will be suspended beginning 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 28.
The order covers government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations and state universities and colleges.
Agencies involved in basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital government functions will continue operations.
Malacañang also encouraged other branches of government, independent commissions and bodies, as well as private companies, to consider similar work suspensions to give families more time to observe the occasion.
The observance is anchored on Proclamation No. 60, which designates the last week of September as Family Week, and Proclamation No. 326, which declares the fourth Monday of September as Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day. Previous Palace issuances have similarly shortened work hours for the annual observance.
National Family Week promotes family unity and solidarity, while Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day highlights the Filipino tradition of families sharing meals together.
