Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday to discuss recent developments in the region amid renewed tensions involving Washington and Tehran.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Dar called for restraint and urged the parties involved to reduce tensions in line with commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June.
The discussion came after a new exchange of attacks between the United States and Iran following reports of Iranian forces firing on a vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz and announcing the waterway’s closure.
Dar and Araghchi exchanged views on the unfolding situation and discussed possible steps to address the growing regional tensions.
The Pakistani foreign minister emphasized that dialogue and diplomatic efforts remained the preferred approach to resolving disputes and maintaining regional stability.
Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to contribute to efforts aimed at supporting peace and security in the region.
The two officials agreed to continue coordinating closely as developments unfolded.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry did not provide further details on possible actions or agreements reached during the call.
