Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alejandro H. Tengco was recognized as Best Entertainment Tourism Leader at the 32nd Skål International Makati Tourism Personality Awards, held Thursday night, February 26, at the Grand Ballroom of Okada Manila.

The annual awards ceremony, organized by Skål International Makati, honors individuals and institutions whose work has made a meaningful impact on the advancement of Philippine tourism. Tengco’s recognition underscores PAGCOR’s expanding role in strengthening the country’s entertainment and integrated resort landscape.

Under Tengco’s leadership, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation has repositioned regulated gaming as more than a revenue-generating sector, framing it instead as a key partner in tourism development, job creation, and destination promotion.

“While many see us primarily as a gaming regulator, we see ourselves as partners in promoting destinations, creating jobs, and strengthening the tourism ecosystem that improves the lives of millions of Filipinos,” Tengco said in his acceptance remarks.

He emphasized that responsibly managed integrated resorts play a crucial role in attracting both domestic and international visitors, stimulating local businesses, and expanding livelihood opportunities in host communities.

Beyond its core regulatory mandate, PAGCOR has also deepened its involvement in sports tourism. Tengco highlighted the agency’s recent inclusion in the National Sports Tourism Inter-Agency Committee, an initiative aimed at elevating the sector by hosting major sporting events that generate economic activity while inspiring audiences in the Philippines and overseas.

The ceremony also recognized other notable contributors to the tourism industry. Awardees included Kyle Jennerman for Social Media Content; Lance Tan as Best Amusement and Entertainment Entity; Seferina Joven as Tour Operator of the Year; Crystal Jacinto for Best Health and Wellness Tourism; Takako Okada for Outstanding MICE Property; Kevin Tan for Best Integrated Hotels and Resorts; Margarita Nograles for Best Government Institution; and world champion gymnast Carlos Yulo, who received the Icon Award for Sports Tourism.

The night highlighted the growing collaboration between government, private enterprises, and creative leaders in positioning the Philippines as a dynamic and competitive tourism destination.
