A low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility was unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours, Pagasa said Sunday.
In its 5 a.m. forecast, the weather bureau said the weather disturbance was affecting Eastern Visayas and parts of Mindanao.
Pagasa located the LPA about 890 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said the agency continued to monitor the disturbance, although its chance of becoming a cyclone within the day remained low.
Badrina said the possibility of cyclone development in the coming days had not been ruled out.
The LPA is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region.
Pagasa also forecast scattered rains over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan due to the southwest monsoon, or Habagat.
The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, may experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
