A potential low pressure area could develop within the Philippine Area of Responsibility and intensify the southwest monsoon beginning Sunday, state weather bureau Pagasa reported Friday.
Weather specialist Leanne Loreto said the weather disturbance was being monitored near the northeastern section of PAR and could move westward in the coming days.
The system may begin strengthening the habagat by Sunday, raising the possibility of another stretch of heavy rainfall over portions of Luzon.
Pagasa forecast 50 to 100 millimeters of rain on Sunday over Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, La Union, Benguet and Pangasinan.
Zambales and Bataan were already experiencing persistent monsoon rains. An orange rainfall warning was raised over the two provinces early Friday, indicating rainfall of 15 to 30 millimeters within three hours.
The habagat will continue to influence weather conditions across Luzon and Western Visayas on Friday, bringing periods of rain to several areas.
Meanwhile, much of the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao will experience generally hot conditions, particularly around midday and in the afternoon, as the monsoon has less influence in these areas.
Pagasa continued to monitor the potential LPA as its development and movement could determine the extent of enhanced monsoon rains from Sunday into the early part of next week.
