There is no tropical cyclone inside the Philippine area of responsibility, but overcast skies with rain showers are seen in many parts of the country on Thursday due to prevailing three weather systems, according to the state weather bureau.
“We still haven’t monitored any tropical cyclone or low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility, but we have three weather systems affecting our country as of present,” said Chenel Dominguez, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in a public weather forecast.
Dominguez was referring to the northeast monsoon or amihan, the easterlies, and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
Pagasa’s 7 a.m. satellite image showed that most parts of the country appear to have a clear atmosphere, but cloud clusters were forming in eastern parts of Mindanao due to the ITCZ, according to Dominguez.
The weather bureau’s 24-hour bulletin released at 4 a.m. noted that amihan prevails in most parts of Luzon, easterlies in the Bicol region and Visayas, and the ITCZ in Palawan and most parts of Mindanao.
Amihan is bringing cloudy skies with rains to Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and Quezon.
This weather system due to cold winds blowing from Siberia also affects Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon, causing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar due to easterlies or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
The same weather condition is seen in Caraga, Davao Region, Palawan, Sarangani, South Cotabato, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi due to the ITCZ.
Dominguez added that no gale warning prevails in any seaboards in the country.
