A low pressure area spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is on track to intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 to 48 hours, the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weather system was last located 1,570 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao and continued to be closely monitored.

Pagasa said the disturbance is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the coming days as it moves westward.

They noted that the LPA’s trough has already been affecting parts of eastern Mindanao, bringing rains and thunderstorms to the area.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains are expected to persist in eastern Mindanao due to the system’s influence.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, a southwesterly windflow is dumping rains over western Mindanao, affecting areas such as Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro, Soccsksargen, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Palawan.

Easterlies are also contributing to unsettled weather over Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, and Quezon, where occasional rain showers are expected.
