Workers in Northern Mindanao will see a boost in their daily pay starting mid-January after the government approved a new wage adjustment for the region, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) confirmed.

It said that the National Wages and Productivity Commission confirmed the increase during its Dec. 22 meeting.

The adjustment raises the minimum daily wage by P39 for employees in both agriculture and non-agriculture sectors.

With the increase, minimum pay levels in the region will reach P485 and P500 a day, depending on wage classification.

The adjustment will be rolled out in phases, with a P25 increase set to take effect on Jan. 16 and a further P14 increase scheduled for May 1.

Higher rates will apply to major cities and select municipalities, while lower rates will cover other areas and small retail and service establishments.

The commission also approved a separate order granting household helpers in Northern Mindanao a P500 increase in monthly pay, bringing the minimum to P6,500.

Both wage orders were published on Dec. 31 and are set to take effect on Jan. 16.
