MANILA – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Monday launched an off-campus training and assessment facility for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Located in Intramuros, the OWWA Kasanayan at Kabuhayan Center (OKKC) will cater to specialized courses in Japanese A1 language, electronic commerce (e-commere), information and communications technology (ICT), housekeeping, caregiving, barista and bartending.

OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, in a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview, said they want to emphasize the upskilling of workers.

“We want to upskill former domestic workers to become caregivers, barista,” she said, adding that the OWWA views skills as the best welfare protection.

Caunan said the OWWA always note the importance of continuous upskilling and planning whenever the agency engages with ASEAN neighbors.

The targeted training programs and assessment services at OKKC, which are joint initiatives of both agencies, aims to expand access to skills development as well as create livelihood opportunities, and ensure sustainable reintegration for OFWs, TESDA said. (PNA)
