Hundreds of farmers affected by recent calamities in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, received more than Php 8 million in agricultural assistance from the Department of Agriculture.
The Department of Agriculture in Davao Region said the assistance was distributed in Barangay Nuing on August 21 to help farming communities restore livelihoods and recover from the impact of recent disasters.
Among the assistance provided were 500 bags of milled rice worth Php 250,000, 100 bags of open-pollinated white corn seeds worth Php 150,000 and 50 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds valued at Php 300,000.
Farmers also received 21 boxes of assorted vegetable seeds worth Php 271,320, along with livestock and poultry assistance.
The interventions included a Php 1.21 million goat production project, a Php 1.13 million native chicken project, 300 free-range chickens and 10 upgraded goats.
The agency also provided Php 50,000 worth of animal drugs and biologics and Php 5 million worth of modules under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion program.
DA-Davao Regional Director Macario Gonzaga said the agency was prioritizing assessments of damaged farms and facilities, the distribution of agricultural inputs and assistance in rehabilitating sources of livelihood.
Jose Abad Santos Mayor Jason John Joyce said the assistance would help affected farmers rebuild their livelihoods and strengthen the recovery of agricultural communities.
