LEGAZPI CITY – More than 3,000 positions were offered to applicants at the one-day job fair of the Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol (DOLE-5) here on Friday.
DOLE-5 Director Imelda Gatinao said the job fair aimed to connect graduates directly with potential employers, increasing the chances of securing employment.
“DOLE, in collaboration with other agencies, is dedicated to creating job opportunities here in Bicol, especially for first-time job seekers. With numerous educational institutions in our region, we hope to link graduates with employers who are searching for individuals with their skills,” she said in her message.
“This type of job fair also supports our local economy. When people earn income, they can buy goods, nourish themselves, and support local businesses. This, in turn, boosts our economy.”
There was no available number yet as to how many applicants were hired on the spot but Gatinao said activities such as this help match applicants with jobs that fit their qualifications.
“It reduces the time job seekers spend searching for employment, minimizing both time and costs. They can go directly to firms and establishments that align with their talents and skills,” she said.
Gatinao said the job fair helps prevent migration and retains talent, thus strengthening local industries.
In time with the job fair, the department also distributed livelihood kits valued at PHP39,735 to beneficiaries of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).
A payout for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged (TUPAD) program was also conducted, where a total of PHP21.7 million was given to 5,511 beneficiaries. (PNA)
